How to Fight Dark Circles, Puffiness, and Lines for Good

06/09/2016

Dark under eye circles – coupled with puffiness and the appearance of fine lines – are a disaster that will surely keep any beauty-conscious woman on her toes. They are unsightly and are linked to aging and stress.

While they are typically treated using topical cream products with soothing and lightening ingredients, they are best addressed via at-home remedies that will be your eye’s best friends for life. They are relatively affordable, easy to create, and safer than chemical components of many commercial eye creams! In addition, you can implement simple lifestyle strategies to get rid of the circles and lines of horror.

Here are ways to banish these under-eye imperfections:

  1. Get enough sleep at night. It is recommended to have seven to nine hours a night to stay well-rested. Use an extra pillow under your head to help extra fluids drain from your face as you sleep.

  2. Use a cold compress on your eyes when getting ready in the morning. Get a clean washcloth, soak it in cool water, and place it on your eyes. Leave the washcloth there until it turns warm. Wring the cloth out and then repeat the steps three or four times.

  3. Consume 8-10 glasses of water every day. Furthermore, reduce your intake of salty foods. Other lifestyle changes include eliminating smoking, as well as minimizing alcohol and caffeine consumption. Doing so will prevent excess water from being retained in your face, which can highlight and exacerbate dark circles and puffiness.

  4. Take an allergy drug for your allergies, as this can typically cause dark, puffy eyes. While these meds are available over the counter, it’s best to consult your doctor.

  5. Put slices of raw potato or cucumber on your eyes. Keep the slices there for 15 to 20 minutes as you relax. Refrigerate the slices or put them in an ice water bowl to keep them cool. Afterwards, rinse your eyes with warm water and apply a gentle eye cream.

  6. Place teabags over your eyes for about 10 to 15 minutes. You may use chamomile for the relaxing effects, but other kinds of teas are a great option as well. All teas provide tannin, which will help reduce dark circle and puffiness. Leave the teabags on for five minutes to achieve your desired effects; make sure to wrap the bag first in a tissue to avoid staining skin.
